Manga Translation
« on: March 30, 2009, 12:39:11 AM »

I'm new here, obviously.  And really, I SHOULD be doing my homework/writing a paper right about now, but I got excited at seeing someone re-releasing this amazing, amazing anime.

And then I saw on your site that you guys couldn't find any Japanese versions of the manga.

Tsk-tsk.  Way ahead of you guys.

I have at my disposal (and for my personal perusal) the entirety of the Japanese manga... in the original Japanese!  Chuuka Ichiban vol.01-05, then Shin Chuuka Ichiban vol.01-12, for a total of 17 volumes of Cooking Master goodness.

Now, I'm not gloating here.  Well, maybe I am a little.  But I did want to point out that it isn't impossible to get Japanese, fairly HQ raws of the manga... and people have been releasing chapters.

I got interested in translating the manga when I found out that Solaris-SVU had stopped releasing chapters, so I did a little hunting a couple years back and came across the raws all on my own.  Coincidentally, I entered my third year of studying Japanese not too long afterwards, and me and my classmates decided we would all do our best to translate manga as a means of studying the language.  We formed the umbrella group "Nihongo Renshuu Dan" ("Japanese Practice Brigade"... Suzumiya Haruhi had been released recently...), and I buckled down and did my best to convert middle-school level Japanese into easy-to-read English.  So, I started translating chapters, but only got chapters 08 and 09 out.  I have chapter 10 finished, but I lost access to the FTP, so no more releases for the moment.

Now I have moved onto translating other manga, but seeing this has revitalized my passion for CMB.

I just want to say this... I fully support you guys in your effort to improve the quality of CMB releases, and will be working hard alongside you!

...Also, anyone willing to host my chapters would be super-appreciated.   Tongue

That's great to hear!  While I have no capability to do manga translation, I surely appreciate the chance to read Chuuka Ichiban in English Smiley

The information in the site is a tad outdated in the sense that high-quality raws aren't forthcoming.  Take a look at this:

Your original sources are of course better in the sense that you'll be translating from the intended language.  Still, I find it difficult to beat scans such as these.  I can hook you up with these, if you like.

As for chapters hosting, what do you need?

Okay, wow, yeah.  The quality on those raws are probably at least a little better than the files I have.

However, I'll continue to work with the Japanese raws for one, slightly selfish reason - it's easier for me. ^_^;

As far as chapter hosting goes, all I really ask is this: put up a page on your website that links to my chapters.  When I start releasing new chapters, I'll put them up on MediaFire or something for ease of download, and then I can send the links to you to update the page with.  Really simple stuff, and as far as I'm aware, it won't eat up anymore of your bandwidth than usual.

...Would this be asking too much?  I mean, I'd understand if you were skeptical or something...

Not a problem.  Let me see what I can do.

Do I assume the page you linked to, at http://n-u-l-l.net/?a=manga-view&i=6&d=64&t=0, is the name of your scanlation group Null?  If so, do I credit you as Gongbao, or some other nick of choice?

Awesome possum.  Arigatou gozaimashita. *bow*

Actually, the name of my scanlation group is Nihongo Renshuu Dan (NRD), with translation credits to Akebono.

^_^;; Sorry for the confusion.  I joined Null recently for the chance to work on a mahjong manga, and I wanted to show you everyone I'm more or less qualified to translate CMB.

Sorry for the double posting, but holy crap!  That was some FAST work on the site there!  I can't begin to tell you how honored and happy this makes me feel.

So, instead, I'll live up to my end of the deal: here's a link to the tenth chapter.

Enjoy~
