Mao, Mei Li and Shilou stop in at a restaurant and eat A LOT. They then
discover that the money Shilou had in his pocket fell out of a hole in the
bottom. They get thrown out as stealing and the chef there, Lei, says to put
them in bags and into the river. A kind man, Yi-gu steps in and asks that Lei
have mercy on them since they were only kids. The restaurant owner, Mr.
Yang, and his daughter, Leyla, approach. Lei is to marry Leyla the next
day and succeed Mr. Yang in the restaurant. Lei is a top chef but Yi-gu is
considered a third class chef, not good enough to marry Leyla. Fortunately
Mr. Yang allows Mao, Mei Li, and Shilou to help with the wedding preparations
to work off the debt for their meal. Lei is a terrible man that plans on
turning the restaurant into a brothel to make more money. Yi-gu gets furious
but Lei's men beat him up. Yi-gu has a beautiful pearl bracelet for Leyla
but never gave it to her. Pearls are extremely rare and precious in this area
but he was to give some to her as a marriage gift. When he heard of her
planned engagement to Lei, he put his feelings for her sake. At the marriage
ceremony Mai brings in his 'Galaxy Noodles' which are black from squid ink
but sparkle like the sky. This is a true dish for a couple in love. Mao tells
Mr. Yang that a person may cook good but still have a bad personality. Lei
is exposed and caught. Mr. Yang sees the phoenix that Yi-gu carved out of
ice for Leyla and the incredible talent that he possesses. Mao then shows
Leyla the bracelet from Yi-gu and she goes to meet him on the bridge over
the Little Galaxy River.

Almost back to Guangzhou, the three decide to stay a night in Chicken Town. After Mao
spent the money they had on books, a kind person named Tia invited them in
for a meal and a place to sleep for the night. A noise in the night was
turned out to be a pure black chicken. Tia's brother Kloh went through a
lot to breed these chickens but the whole town forsook them as bad luck. The
Black Chiclet restaurant never had customers and Tia even hated the
chickens herself, blaming them for the death of her brother. The town was
holding its annual Whole Chicken Dish Exhibition. Master To Lik, the mayor
and the vice-mayor were to judge the event. The prize is a lot of money and
fame. Mao enters for the Black Chiclet Restaurant and serves only white rice
in a clay pot. The so-called Bad Luck Chickens were actually the Legendary
Silkie Chickens with a wonderful taste, also known as Black-Boned
Chickens. These remained pure-bred, with
completely black meat, bones, etc. As they go to Kloh's grave to tell him
of their victory, they find someone is already there. It is Choyu. Kloh
was a dear friend of his and commends Mao for making Kloh's Dream come true.
Shilou is officially welcomed by Choyu to Yosen Shuka.
Cooking Secret: Cook rice inside whole chicken, serve rice alone.

Master Luoh and Choyu go to Chang'an for a cooking conference, leaving Mao in
charge. A mysterious traveler carrying a long thing on his back is looking
for Yosen Shuka Restaurant. Right before Mei Li locked up the man walked in.
No one around to cook, Shilou decides he can make the mixed vegetable
stir-fry. Shilou forgot to drain the oil and the man got very upset. Mao
returns and tries to resolve the situation. The man asks Mao to make
something with three kinds of eggs and within 15 minutes. Mao makes some siu
mai (steamed dumplings). The man already figures that Mao used chicken and
preserved duck eggs. He finds the dish to be wonderful and knows Mao is a
special kind of chef. The man is Shell, Dim Sum Master of San Sei. He
challenges Mao.

The man unwraps the thing on his back to reveal a huge, black steel stick.
There are several golden stars on one end which represent all the high-lever/super chefs that have been beaten by him. Mao cannot hold back his
competitive instinct. He really wants to see what kind of siu mai the man can
make with this big stick. Mao finally forces himself to refuse the challenge
as he is now responsible for the restaurant. The man has a bit of a tantrum.
Choyu and Master Luoh walk in just in time. They tell Mao that he was chosen
to take over, not to protect the restaurant, but because he has the will to
challenge and do his best. Mao feels relieved and happily accepts the man's challenge. Luoh recognizes the man to be 'Steel Stick Shell' who has a
well-known reputation. He was the youngest dim sum master and now travels all
of China to challenge talented chefs. Shell spins like a tornado with his
stick and flattens the siu mai skin. He then splits the steel stick in two
and minces the meat. Mao is in awe. Mao spins his dough like a big pizza
until it is the perfect thickness. The time limit was two hours but Shell
finishes in half the time. Mao is just now steaming his siu mai. As Shell
lifts the lid of his siu mai, a bright golden light beams out of the
restaurant that the people outside can even see.

Shell reveals his 'Golden Cut Siu
Mai' that is divided into four parts. Each has a perfect ratio to the pork. Luoh is the judge of this contest. Both he
and Choyu say these are worthy of being called the 'Ultimate Siu Mai'. Mao is
in shock. He was using the same ingredients and divided into four parts, but
his did not have the perfect proportions as Shell's. Mao almost has a
break-down but then a new idea comes to him. With only a half hour left Mao
starts from scratch but this time he goes outside to spin a gigantically huge
piece of dough. When the time is up, Shilou and Mao bring out a really big
steaming tray (almost the size of the restaurant kitchen) and uncover one siu
mai that is the size of the tray. Shell is sure that the middle is not
completely cooked because of the size. Luoh tastes the siu mai, then moves to
another spot and tries again, then moves to another place. He now knows why
Mao called it the 'Big Bang Siu Mai'. Luoh does some master sword cutting and Shell mentions that Luoh's nickname was Superman. Mao used each part of the pig to make a perfect siu mai that could even be a main course with each guest eating the part he/she likes best. Shell declares his loss and hopes to meet Mao again. Mao also says that was the most fun he had had. Choyu has the doors of the restaurant opened so the people outside can join in the feast.
Cooking Secret: Use a WHOLE pig.

It's the anniversary of Mei Li's mother's death. Though Choyu does not plan to
go to her grave, he creates a beautiful ice dragon in memory of her. Shilou
finds an arrow at the door with a letter attached. Mei Li and Choyu are
invited to a dinner along with other cooking heads. Luoh tells Mao to go
along with them. The dinner is being held at a deserted restaurant in the
middle of the dark forest. The main course served is supposed to be pigeon
but turned out to be poisonous red frog instead. Mao and Choyu were the only
ones to notice in time. Mei Li and the other officials are all passed out on
the floor. Some doors open to reveal a masked man. He is seeking revenge
against Choyu for something in the past. They have a three-round contest in
exchange for the antidote. The first round is to measure cutting skills.
Lobsters must be cut and made into a dish all while blindfolded. Suddenly
Choyu collapses - a scorpion was hidden amongst the lobsters. Mao claims how
low that was but the masked man said that Choyu did the same thing to him
years ago. Mao doesn't believe Choyu would do such a thing and challenges the
masked man to complete the final two rounds.
