Despite Lakon's heritage, Shell is not intimidated at all. He uses both hands to knead dough while Lakon uses his Hakura Rotating Snake. Shell continues to his own style. The secret to the buns is the dough. The older the better when it comes to a basis for fermentation. Lakon has a piece of extremely OLD dough which was passed down 1600 years from the ancient days of the Hakura family. When he adds the piece, the bun dough begins to rise as if it was alive. Everyone is in awe but Shell continues to work, unconcerned that his dough is very flat. Instead of using the traditional pork Shell chooses beef as his main ingredient, more specifically steak. Finally Lakon completes his legendary steamed buns. We get a shot of Shouan almost at the boat. Both teams have completed their steamed buns. As they uncover their dishes, two great beams of light are emitted passing even through the ceiling.

Both competitors have their steamed buns
beautifully displayed. Lakon makes buns of four colors on a boat and Shell makes golden buns on a dragon's back. Lakon has engraved words on each of the buns. Each bun represents a spirit of the four gods: White Tiger, Black Tortoise, Green Dragon, and Red Phoenix. Lakon used the 'Big Eight Seafood' as filling. The top 8 seafood ingredients were each cooked in its own clay pot bringing out the best flavor of each. Finally the
'Spirit-Calming Buns' made all the judges are calm and content. Everyone expects Lakon to win with his 'Eight Seafood Buns of the Four
Gods' but there is an irritating laugh echoing in the arena. Shell's buns begin to laugh. Laughing buns? They are fried to a golden color but normally the juice would all leak out. This is not the case as all the judges are covered in juice. Shell used vermicelli to soak up all the beef flavor while egg yolks made them golden. After making a slit in each bun, the oil rushes in. The pressure from steam inside the bun is released and makes a laughing sound. Of course Mao helps in this explanation of the
'Golden Laughing Bun'. All the judges are laughing like kids and now Shell is favored to win. Sache runs up to the front and asks which judges choose Shell. No one raises their red spoon. Lakon is the winner?

Shan now asks for the judges to raise their white spoon. No one does. The judges relate a story about a vendor selling an invincible Spear and an
impenetrable shield. If the spear can break through anything and the shield can block anything, what happens when the spear is thrust against the shield? They both cancel each other out, neither better or worse just different. It is declared to be a tie. Shell and Lakon can't accept that so they try each other's buns, then eat another, then another. While continually talking trash to each other, they both finish eating and even drink tea together. It's really a love/hate relationship. After beating each other up they finally break out in laughter, admitting mutual respect. Shell learned the frying technique from his travels and improved on it. Also Shell has his friends who are also good and they have to challenge themselves to get better. Lakon then decides he wants to travel and learn more too. Lakon gives Shell his staff to return to him in another battle in 10 years. Shan won't let him leave but Shell blocks the attack. Shan tries again but Lakon disappears to challenge Shell again. Shouan is still on his way. Shan pulls a rope and the whole cooking field is lowered to a second arena. The subject announced as the main ingredient is seafood, Leon's specialty. Leon swings one of his knives. The water is sliced in half and a squid pops out. Immediately Leon is able to perfectly cut up a squid. Shan then steals the spotlight when she uncovers her own set of 'Seven Star Knives'. Shan takes a huge fish, slices it, takes out the eggs, then somehow the wound disappears and the fish goes back into the water unharmed. How is it possible there is another set?

Leon's past is revealed. He actually killed Lache, the creator of his knives. Lache said his next set of knives would be better but Leon's evil determination to be the best would not let that happen. Crippled under the weight of his own guilt, Leon says he cannot compete. Finally Mao punches Leon and Leon hits the floor. Mao says that to make up for his mistake he has to bring more happiness to others. Convinced by his good buddy, Leon asks what the judges want to eat. They say Shanghai Crab, tasty but very little meat. Shan rushes to get all the big fat ones but Leon takes his time and picks the ugly small ones. Leon works really hard but Shan starts flirting with the judges and asks them to keep two conditions. Leon's dish is put before the judges and they can't wait to try
it. It looks delicious. Leon fried the crabs so that the judges
could eat the whole thing. Shan reminds them that the first condition is that they try hers first. Shan made crab
omelet. This is considered to be an extremely easy dish that children can even make. She then brings out a crab soup and they have to drink it all, condition number two. When the judges then take a bite of Leon's, one of them spits it out and asks how it can be so disgusting.

Shan is declared the winner. She makes the judges promise that they will not reverse their decision. Mao discovers her Tongue-Numbing Taste trick. The
omelet was just a cover since the real trick was in the soup. Shan made the soup so strong that all they could taste from Leon's dish was the oil. Despite the fact that her scam had been expose, Shan reminds them all that she is still the winner. Leon feels terrible that he lost again to the Dark Cooking Society so he takes off all his knives. Shan is about to take them but Shell stops her. Shell remembers meeting the creator of the knives, Lache, on his travels. He always made two sets, the second set to reflect and honor them. There was a lot of grass around his house so when he fell off the cliff the grass cushioned his fall. Leon finds that he didn't kill Lache and is relieved. Unfortunately that's when Shan found him. She gave him a special medicine that made him tell her where the second set was. Then she killed him. She wanted to take Leon's knives so her set would be the only one. She then attacks Leon and they get into a sword fight. When the two knives clash, a bright light comes out and they all see an image of Lache. He
tells Leon to make people happy with these sacred knives. Shan's set then
disintegrate and Leon's set glows. This is Lache's answer. Since Leon lived with guilt all this time, the knives can read his heart and know his good intentions. They choose him as the rightful owner. Shan could not fool the knives. It's now one win, one loss, and one tie. The fateful final round has come. But who is Mao's opponent? An evil cackle fills the air.

The ceiling opens to reveal Shouan. In such a short period of time he climbed to the top of the Underground Society, fueled by his hatred for Mao. Mao gets upset that Shouan would do such a thing but Shouan comes down and starts beating up Mao. He says that he lost everything to Mao at that time and that the Dark Society gave him what he needed for his dream of defeating Mao and Pai. Mao says that he wants to finish this once and for all. He therefore requests that tofu again be the deciding ingredient. Shouan agrees that it is the most appropriate for their dual. The judges say that they need to make the tofu from scratch using raw soybeans otherwise it'd be too boring. That would give them 16 hours to make the tofu and prepare it for 3 o'clock the next day. After washing them they need about ten hours to soak in water so Shilou and Mei Li say they will guard the soybeans while the others get some sleep. Shan sneaks in and pokes them with a needle with sleep-inducing poison on the tip. When Shilou and Mei Li awake they find the soybeans smell awful and are on top of a low fire. Shan must have sabotaged the beans with a certain bacteria, creating the Japanese natto. There is not enough time to start over but Mao has a great idea.
